Mangrove Global, has been appointed as distributor for Japanese whisky, Togouchi. This new addition is the latest jewel in Mangrove’s sizeable world whisky portfolio as it works to become the best curated selection of world spirits.

Togouchi’s premium blended and single malt whiskies are 100% made in Japan, matured in a uniquely consistent environment and include releases that experiment with delicious cask finishes. And for this reason, it’s set to tempt UK whisky lovers nationwide.

Togouchi is a Japanese whisky, distilled predominantly from local barley and produced at the Sakurao distillery just outside Hiroshima. The range in its entirety offers something to suit all tastes – with Mangrove distributing Togouchi Premium Blended Whisky, Togouchi 9 year old, Togouchi 15 year old, Togouchi Single Malt, and Togouchi Sake Cask Finish. The latter of these is an exclusive for independent retail – firstly matured in Bourbon barrels before being treated to three months finishing in elegant sake casks. This gives a flavour of toasted barley, jasmine, orange peel and flapjack with a buttery and lightly spiced finish. The range’s flagship SKU, Togouchi Premium Blended Whisky, is a well-balanced blend of two liquids – a delectable combination of grain whisky produced from 100% unmalted barley, and malt whisky (both now distilled at the Sakurao distillery), which gives complex and herbaceous flavours – marzipan, plum and walnuts. Golden of colour and extremely smooth – it’s much enjoyed by Japanese whisky enthusiasts across the globe.

Nick Gillett, Managing Director of Mangrove Global commented:

The precise nature of distilling practiced at the Sakurao Distillery is very typical of Japanese whisky traditions – and this range of whiskies is a stellar example of how precision gives way to the most delicious liquids.  The unique but consistent nature of the tunnel ageing beautifully shows how the surrounding environment shapes the taste and quality of a spirit.

This addition to our portfolio reinforces our commitment to curating a world-leading range of world whiskies that all can enjoy.

What makes these whiskies is a little different is that they’re aged in an old railway tunnel, in the heart of the Osorakan Mountain. The consistently cool temperature of 14 degrees and humidity rate of 80% means that the spirit takes minimal flavour from the casks – while still allowing oxygen to interact enough to mellow the liquid’s flavour. The result is a refreshingly light (in colour and flavour) tipple. This means that it’s super approachable and fantastic mixed into highballs as well as being enjoyed neat.

Togouchi will sit alongside Mangrove’s wider portfolio, which already includes Japanese whiskies, Akashi and Yamazakura.
