Fundraising cocktail menu 1st March – 15th March 2020 #OneEqualOne
To mark Fair Trade Fortnight, bars across the UK are being invited to join a new campaign to help raise funds to support Bolivian farmers, while driving consumer traffic to their venues for a delicious and ethical cocktail.
FAIR. Drinks the ethical spirits brand and drinks distributer Mangrove UK are recruiting bars to join their nationwide campaign to support this initiative, which will be promoted by consumer PR and social media activity.
The campaign will fundraise to support the Nuevo Amanecer Fair Trade certified association in Bolivia, which is an association teaching and empowering local farmers to use traditional cultivation techniques and organic ways to farm the highest quality quinoa, known as ‘Quinoa Real’. As mass-farming production of quinoa increases for huge Peruvian agri-businesses so does the use of pesticides and fertilisers, meaning that these small grassroots businesses may disappear.
Funds raised from the campaign will help improve the soil health, ensuring this area is sustainable for future generations of farmers. For example, £25 will fund one tonne of compost for the farmers. It will also fund a communications campaign to bring more farmers into the association to work together. Efigenia Encinas Choque is a member of Nuevo Amanecer, her family are farmers and she is a passionate advocate of ‘Quinoa Real’ and the benefits of farmers joining forces to strengthen their export potential and protect their future.
Efigenia Choque explains:
“Having the Fair Trade certification has meant we were able to improve our houses, build water reservoirs and install tap water, buy machinery for cleaning the quinoa and easing up the work in the field, and it has brought our families together. Up to 30% of the premium is spent on the protection of the environment. We are making our part of the world better thanks to Fairtrade.”
Participating bars will serve cocktails made using FAIR. drinks, including FAIR. Vodka which is made from quinoa and for each drink sold, they donate £1 to help this cause. Partaking bars will be given access to a website with recipes for three specially curated cocktails and downloadable resources including menu templates, social media assets and promotional post cards.
Paul Bungener, Brand Ambassador for FAIR. Drinks said:
“This is a great opportunity for bars to get on board with an enjoyable campaign while giving something back. We’ve made it really easy to get involved with accessible assets and a simple concept, so I am urging bars to please get in touch and join in.”
Nick Gillett, Managing Director at Mangrove said:
“We know that increasingly consumers are looking for ethical options and questioning the authenticity and sustainable credentials of products. This fundraiser is a commendable way for our trade to offer support to an extremely worthy cause.”
