East London Liquor Co. has announced Martha Markham from Hawksmoor’s Liverpool site as the winner of their Negroni competition, which was open to all bar staff from across the group.
As their prize, Martha will be flown out with East London founder Alex Wolpert to host a takeover in Rome, for a night of slinging East London booze during Roma Bar Show. Their winning serve of “Up the Garden Path” includes East London Liquor Co Gin, Greengage, Rosé Vermouth, Beesou Aperitif. The drink will feature across all Hawksmoor menus during Negroni Week (18th-24th September).
The competition was launched to support East London’s new 3 cocktail listings across Hawksmoor’s 13 UK sites. These include the Jungle Formula using East London Rum, as well as the Southside Spritz and Sour Cherry Negroni featuring East London Gin.
Liam Davy, Hawksmoor Head of Bars, says
This competition was a great excuse to bring the team together at the end of summer and get them pumped about a classic serve that’s always up for reinvention. East London’s gin can handle pretty much anything you throw at it, so it was the ideal backdrop to give the team free reign to come up with something new.
Alex Wolpert explains
Nothing celebrates the Negroni more than Italy itself, so it was a no brainer for us to throw a trip into the mix when thinking about the prize. With Italy now one of our strongest performing European export markets, we thought a very Italian cocktail using a very East London Gin was a great excuse to celebrate our booze being poured across Hawksmoor restaurants.
