Ancho Reyes Chili Liqueur

Inspired by a 1927 recipe found in Puebla de Zaragoza, Mexico, Ancho Reyes is an elixir made from the beloved and unique chile ancho.

 
Traditionally Ancho Reyes was enjoyed neat. As a cocktail ingredient, its versatility transcends time, season, and geography—a smoky, heated, fiery celebración of the radical, the romantico, and the independiente inside us all.
 
 

Production

Crafted from hand-selected, 100% natural ancho chillies. To ensure a consistently high quality, the production process is meticulous. Great care is taken to fashion Ancho Reyes liqueur just as it was in the original family Reyes recipe. 
  • Chile poblanos are hand-picked from August to October; the green chiles are placed in the sun to dry. Soil is rested for three years between crops.
  • Only the best ancho chiles are selected. Each chile ancho is individually selected for quality and scissor-sliced by hand.
  • The ancho chiles soak and macerate in neutral cane spirit within small metal vats for half a year. 
  • This small batch maceration creates sharp, seductive and rich flavours which perfectly combine to create the finished liquid.
  • The liquid is subsequently bottled and each bottle is individually inspected and hand labeled.
 

Tasting Notes:

 
COLOUR: A deep bronze hue with medium body and high viscosity.
 
NOSE: Slightly pungent, followed by dried chili notes, spices, cinnamon, cacao, tamarind, and wet wood with light herbal notes adding to the complexity.
 
FINISH: Pleasantly sweet, followed by chili with moderate heat and slight acidity. Hints of spices, tamarind, plum, cacao, apple and almonds then subtle notes of fine herbs.
